High Current Probes

When we talk about high current we never think of the electrical testing sector, where most of the work is done working around 3 Amperes. So the Spring Contact Probes that can work at 5 Amperes are already considered High Current.

The High Current Spring Probe produced by us can work with currents of up to 30-50 Amperes during electrical tests of few seconds duration.
Nevertheless, there are other situations in which Spring Probes can be used, such as in testing equipment that has a longer service life. In this case it is necessary to work on particular technical characteristics that we can develop together with the customer.

High Current Probes Technical Data

Recommended minimum distance (grid-pitch)

The standard installation pitch for our High Current Spring Contact Probes is from 2,54 mm to 10,00 mm.
We are able to produce High Current Probe of variable sizes and non-standard characteristics, depending on our customer needs.

Current rating

Thanks to special measures, during the construction phase and performing the silver-plating of the barrel and the spring, we produce High Current Probes standard with supported currents ranging from 10A to 30A.
We are also able to produce Spring Contact Probes parts that can withstand currents up to 100A.

Typical contact resistance

The choice of materials, the silver plating of components and the precision in assembly, allow our High Current Spring Contact Probe to have a contact resistance not exceeding 10mΏ.

Types of High Current

Spring Contact Probes High Current can be of two types:

High Current standard

what differentiates them from a normal Probe is the type of material and the type of plating treatment to which they are subjected. This allows it to have a lower resistance and consequently to have a higher current carrying capacity. In addition, the spring load is increased to ensure better contacting.

High Current with continuous plunger

in this case the plunger is continuous, i.e. it comes out of the barrel from both sides, forming a point to directly connect the wire on it. This ensures that the current does not pass through the spring, but only between the barrel and the plunger, thus favoring a greater flow of current for a longer time.

High Current Materials and Plating

In order for a Spring Contact Probe to have the characteristics of a High Current probe, we must guarantee a lower electrical resistance than the latter For this reason, the materials we use for its parts are the following:

Materiale: bronzo

For the barre

Silver plated brass or bronze.

For the spring

Music wire silver plated, load from 100 to 1300 gr.

For the plunger

BeCu, gold plated or silver plated.

For our standard High Current range (GLP3-HC/GLP4-HC/GLP5-HC) the receptacles are the same as those used for the Spring Contact Probes range for ICT:

to weld the wire directly in the receptacle

for crimping the wire inside the receptacle

Wrap the thread

to wrap the wire around the square end of the receptacle

Round Post

Round Post

to insert the termination of the receptacle in a special place

High Current Head Shape

The greater the contact surface, the lower the risk of electric arc and wear of the Spring Contact Probes. For this reason, the heads most frequently used for High Current are 01, 03, 04, 08, 10, 11, 21, because they guarantee an excellent contact surface.

Thanks to Tecon technologies and our company structure, the diameter and milling characteristics of each head can be agreed upon with the customer according to their needs.
